‘Compelled To Quit Trinamool With Heavy Heart,’ Says Mukul Roy

Mukul Roy ,who along  with Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee had founded The All India Trinamool  Congress, resigned as TMC Member of the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday.
He met  Vice President  M Venkaiah Naidu, who is ex-0ffico Chairman of the Upper House of Indian Parliament. He later told media persons that he was quitting the party with a heavy heart and was literally forced to snap ties with the Bengal’s ruling party. Political analysts say he may be a destructive power to adversely affect Mamata Banerjee who is losing her sheen and popularity.
Mukul Roy told media that  he would reveal future plans after Diwali which is on October 19.TMC leaders as usual put up a brave and smiling face since they survive at the mercy of their supremo.
The disgraced  63-year-old ,who was Railway Minister  and later removed as TMC’s Parliamentary Party  Leader ,said all members of a political party should be comrades and not  servants obviously  recalling his humiliation and  maltreatment by party leaders.
The Trinamool Congress leaders  have   predicted that his press conference in Delhi will be a “damp squib”  and said  Bengal and the party have  been “saved”.  “Mukul has done very ‘kancha (raw) politics. He has succumbed to the pressure by BJP and the CBI,” said  TMC
General Secretary and Education  Minister Partha Chatterjee.
But a section in the party feels that Roy, a founder-member who knows all the skeletons in the Trinamool cupboard, would be a powerful enemy if he allies with the BJP.
Roy has met senior BJP leaders Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley and Kailash Vijayvargiya,BJP’s in charge for WB before quitting RS.
“Mamata Banerjee had instructed me in 2004 to have a meeting with Sangh leaders. I met them in Kolkata. In 2003, Banerjee had herself met (late VHP leader) Ashok Singhal at her residence. So it is not new for me,” he had told reporters.
On October 25, Roy had pre-empted the Trinamool plans to suspend  him. At a hastily called press conference, he announced that he was resigning from the party with a “heavy heart”.
Partha Chattarjee said who cares for a political nobody who was picked up by Mamata Banerjee from Kanchrapara near Kolkata  and made him somebody by giving responsibilities.
“Even his neighbours didn’t know who he was. Mamata Banerjee not only made him an MP, but also India’s Railway Minister. What else can you want?” he said. ” He is just a gas balloon. If Mamata Banerjee punctures him, he will become nothing”,Chatterjee remarked in one of his briefings .
It may be recalled that Mukul
Roy’s fallout with Mamata Banerjee began after he was questioned by CBI in January 2015 related to the multi crore Saradha Chit Fund
scam. Unlike other lawmakers of the party, who were arrested, he emerged smiling after quizzing by CBI following  which several party leaders started questioning his loyalty to Mamata Banerjee. The suspicion was that he was betraying the party to save his own skin.
He was also interrogated by CBI regarding Narada stimg case after some TMC leaders were seen accepting wads of note from a journo who claimed to  a prospective investor. As many as   12 Trinamool leaders are allegedly involved in the scam.
Among the leaders who have been quizzed repeatedly lately are former Transport Minister Madan Mitra, lawmaker Aparupa Poddar, Transport Minister Suvendu Adhikari, serving Kolkata Mayor & Minisyer Sovan Chatterjee and legislator Iqbal Ahmed.
