HIMACHAL Pradesh Goes To Poll On Nov 9


ELECTION Commission of India announced on Thursday that polling
for 68 -Member Himachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly will be held on November 9.Counting of votes will be taken up simultenously on December 18.
The program was announced in ECI’s’ headquarters in New Delhi by
Chief Election Commissioner Achal Kumar Jyoti.
Election Commissioners Om Prakash Rawat and Sunil Arora were also present at the media briefing.The Model Conduct of Conduct -MCC- becomes effective in the hilly State with the announcement of the Poll schedule.
The elections will be conducted by using electronic voting machines (EVMs) with voter-verified paper audit trail (VVPAT).The five-year term of the State assembly will expire on January 7.
Asked about poll schedule for Gujarat,Jyoti said it will be announced later.
“Gujarat poll schedules are not announced right now due to the existing rules on time limit (46 days) for holding elections, but it will take place before December 18 to ensure that Himachal Pradesh election results do not impact the Gujarat elections,” Jyoti said.
An estimated 49.05 lakh voters, including over 20,000 new voters, will be exercising their franchise from 7,521 polling stations in Himachal Pradesh.
Voter assistance booths will be set up and 200 wheel chairs have been arranged by the State government, Jyoti said. There will be 136 all-women managed poll stations this time, he added.
The ceiling for election expenditure per candidate is  25 lakh INR.For
for  first time RONet, an integrated application for conducted election will be used. It was first implemented on pilot basis in Ludhiana Assembly elections in February this year,he added.
The contest for the election will be between the ruling Congress and the main opposition BJP.
While the BJP is yet to announce its chief ministerial candidate, Congress has announced Himachal Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh,83, as the Chief Ministerial candidate.
The Notification for the election will be issued on October 13.
The last date for filling nomination is October 23.Scrutiny will be the next day.
