PM Modi Says Gujarat Will Again Reject Congress As In The Past


PRIME Minister Narendra Modi said on Monday that despite the India’s oldest political party often trying to mocking him as he had come from a humble origin and used to sell tea for earning livelihood, he   is proud of being called chaiwala.”I did sell tea   but not my nation” with obvious reference to alleged massive irregularities and corruption during Congress regime. Prime Minister Modi was addressing elections rallies in poll bound Gujarat where polling will be held in two phases on December 9 and 14 for the 182-member state legislative assembly .Results will be declared four days later. The ruling BJP is contesting for all the seats. Congress is trying to wrest power from BJP after 22 years.Modi, who is leading the BJP’s campaign, accused the Congress of defaming “Gujarat” and denying its legitimate dues. Modi asked “Can a party stoop so low recalling his poverty? They do not fail to hide their contempt for the chaiwala who became Chief Minister of his home state and is now The Prime Minister.”Yes, I sold tea but I did not sell the nation,” he said. The Prime Minister “requested” the Congress “not mock the poor and my poor origins”.Modi said the Congress always tried to win elections and rule by “pitting one caste against the other”. He asked the people not let the Congress destroy the composite culture of Gujarat. The Congress ruled government had opposed formation of Gujarat as a separate state and fired at those who were agitating their homeland. The Congress Government had put hurdles for constructing the Narmada Dam for providing water, irrigation as well generating electricity, he said. Referring to the allegations made by Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi, PM Modi said “I am a son of the soil of Gujarat having no stains in my long public life. You come to the state and level baseless allegations on the son of the soil… the people of the state will not forgive you,” Modi said. Rahul during his election campaign had trained his guns on the Modi-led government over the Rafale fighter aircraft deal. Modi will address between 32 and 35 rallies in his home state in the coming fortnight .During the day, The Prime Minister addressed during the day rallies in Dhari in Amreli and Kamrej in Surat district. Amreli is dominated by the powerful Patel community. Modi said BJP will win 151 out of 182 seats to come back to power.
