TAMIL Nadu’s ruling All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) on Tuesday sacked jailed VK Sasikala, 61, from the party and the post of “interim” general secretary. At a general council meeting in Chennai, the party removed Sasikala and her nephew, TTV Dhinakaran, from all positions and scrapped all appointments made by them. The AIADMK also restored all people appointed by Jayalalithaa whose death last December triggered the crisis. The meeting also resolved to approach the election commission to reclaim the party’s frozen two-leaf symbol. The party will now be run by a 11-member panel headed by deputy chief minister O Panneerselvam with chief minister Edapaddi Palaniswamy as co-coordinator. Dhinakaran rejected the resolution of the meeting and said that the party had no powers to remove either him or his aunt, who is in jail for corruption. The AIADMK’s General Council, which met at Chennai, adopted a resolution in this regard. Film Star turned politico J Jayalalithaa held the position till her demise after a prolonged illness.  The resolution further said that the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister E Palaniswamy and his deputy O Panneerselvam shall retrieve the party and its symbol.”The temporary General Secretary’s post stands forfeited. Sasikala is expelled,” said Tamil Nadu Revenue Minister RB Udaykumar.”The General Secretary post is always to be held by Amma and it shall remain forever. And Amma only has all the credibility to be there. There is no one else for the post and the by-law is ratified to that effect,” as per the resolution. The party’s functionaries appointed by late CM and GS Jayalalithaa will continue and all announcements made by TTV Dhinakaran will not be binding on the party. Dhinakaran was appointed Deputy General Secretary Sasikala before she had left for Bengaluru for serving jail sentence as directed by the Supreme Court in a multi crore corruption case. The united AIADMK has also resolved to retrieve the ‘two leaves’ party symbol,” Udaykumar said. It will approach The Election Commission of India tomorrow with the approved resolutions. “New designations have been created. The Deputy Chief Minister OPS is the Chief Coordinator and the CM EPS is the Assistant Chief Coordinator of the AIADMK .All powers of the GS will be exercised by the Chief and Assistant Chief Coordinators,” the resolution said. Reacting to the expulsion of Sasikala, TTV Dhinakaran said “Most Ministers fear that they will lose elections and hence they are accusing us of conniving with DMK”.“You (EPS-OPS) claim you have support of party workers, so if you have guts let us face fresh elections,” he said. “Now I will ensure that this Tamil Nadu Government is thrown out of power,” he added. The Madras High Court had on Monday night dismissed a petition filed by TTV Dhinakaran supporter and Perambur MLA P Vetrivel opposing the conduct of GC.It is claimed that the GC was attended by 2,780 members of the party besides most of the MLAs across the State. Meanwhile, party sources are confident  that all the  19 MLAs with Dhinakaran will ditch him fearing  disqualification and will  support  the ruling AIADMK .Tamil Nadu’s Assembly Speaker  has sent  them  three letters requesting  them to have personally  explain their positions as per the Rule Book. The party is now under the control of the panel headed by Deputy CM O Panneerselvam and Chief Minister Edapaddi Palaniswami. The Madras HC  said any decision by the General Council will be subject to its decision  which may be announced during the next hearing on October 23.

Earlier on Monday, a court in Bengaluru had put a freeze on the meeting in response to another petition by Sasikala loyalists. The united AIADMK, which is led by Chief Minister E Palaniswami and his predecessor O Panneerselvam, said they would stick to the Madras High Court order, reports NDTV.
